Very good helmet overall. Would definitely recommend it.
There are two things that I think can be improved:
1) The fit adjustment dial on the back does not stay in place very well and can loosen the fit of the helmet slightly through normal use. It also can pop off of the helmet altogether too easily, which is what happened to me and now the dial is missing. So this mechanism can be improved by staying in the position you set it to better and being attached to the helmet itself more securely.
2) The ventilation is rather poor. The vents are okay for slow, passive cooling, but they are not placed well for active venting that draws air into the helmet and pushes it out the back (like a normal bike helmet). I found this out because my head would get very hot while biking in this helmet, so I now use it exclusively for skateboarding, where I don’t get as hot.

I’m impressed with the helmet’s appearance; it looks great and seems to be of high quality. The black matte finish is fantastic. As a parent, I value the additional safety features that MIPS provides. I have no regrets about choosing this helmet, and my 10-year-old son also approves of it. Although it’s slightly heavier than his old helmet, I expected this due to its higher quality. The fit was perfect for my son, whose head circumference of 22″ falls in the middle of the small/medium range. I hope he never has to test the helmet’s safety features, but if they’re ever needed, I won’t regret paying extra for a high-quality helmet. As an aside, the yellow “MIPS” sticker on the helmet is not intended to be removed. I learned the hard way and I now have a half-scraped sticker on an otherwise perfect helmet.

Having sustained a serious head injury in the past, helmets which offer the utmost protection are priority number one for me. The Triple 8 Gotham Dual Certified MIPS helmet fits the bill, especially given their incorporation of MIPS technology. The helmet is comfortable, breathable, and fairly lightweight. The rapidly adjustable back-strap makes donning and doffing the helmet a breeze and the chin strap is very easy to adjust compared to other helmets I’ve owned. I would highly recommend this helmet to anyone looking for a stylish bike/skate helmet that offers top-of-the-line protection.

I’m hoping this review will be of some help to someone out there who’s looking for a good quality helmet that fits right. Sorry, it’s kind of a long read. I did quite a bit of research and mostly looked at the S1 Lifer, the TSG Evolution, and the Triple 8 Gotham helmets. I’m a middle-aged guy and just getting back into roller skating so my skills are pretty rusty and I wanted a good quality helmet to practice outside. The MIPS technology was also something that impressed me as a good feature to have.
I measured my head with one of those flexible tailoring measuring tapes. My head measured exactly 23 in or 58.5 cm.
After reading the information from the Triple 8 product descriptions, they recommended that you choose larger size if your measurement fell in between two sizes, which mine did. I ordered the L/XL helmet and when it came in and I tried it on I had to adjust the dial system in the back of the helmet to get it to fit snug front to back, but the sides felt kind of loose. I could slide three fingers in between my temples and one the side of the helmet. I felt if the dial system adjustment in the back ever broke, the helmet would be useless because it was way too large. And then looking in the mirror I felt like Dark Helmet from the movie Spaceballs, it really looked ridiculously large as my photos will show.
So I returned the L/XL and ordered a Sm/M even though my head was a little bit larger than what it recommended. It did fit very snug but it seemed to seat down properly as the front was just a little bit above my eyebrows as it should be. Also, my ears were in the right position in the helmet openings on the side. I did end up removing the small piece of felt padding in the front of the helmet and now the helmet fits absolutely perfect.
I ended up discounting the S1 Lifer helmets because I felt that based on my head measurements, I was going to need the S1 Mega Lifer and it would have a bunch of padding holding my head in there and I was afraid that the padding would eventually compress over time and compromise the snugness of fit. And I also couldn’t find the helmet size that I wanted in prime with returns and I wanted to be able to return the helmet if it didn’t fit right. So I didn’t end up ordering one if those to try out. Lastly, it lacked The MIPS technology.
I also tried the TSG Evolution helmet because of it’s contoured design. Which it fit pretty good, but upon closer inspection the foam protective layer was noticeably thinner than that of the Triple 8 helmets, especially in the front. It was also lacking in MIPS protection. My wife said the helmet actually sat higher on my head than the Triple 8 Sm/M. She thought the Triple 8 Sm/M for better.
I’ve been using the Triple 8 Sm/M helmet for about 3 weeks. It feels very comfortable and I forget I’m wearing it. I do get sweaty when I skate and it hasn’t seemed that bad to me as I’ve seen other reviews where people feel the airflow isn’t that great. The chin strap and buckle seem to be good quality and adjust well to keep the helmet secure.
The first two pictures I uploaded are obviously my head measurements. The third picture is the difference between the foam padding on the Triple 8 Sm/M on the left, and the TSG Evolution on the right. The fourth picture is the side and front shots of me wearing the helmets with each picture labeled. The final picture is of the chin strap.
So far I’m very pleased with the Triple 8 helmet and the look. And like someone else said, if you don’t like the look of the helmet, you’re not going to wear it and it won’t do you any good if you don’t wear it. Hopefully, I don’t need to test it’s durability. But if I do I will update this review. Good luck and safe skating!

I am an adult with a 20.5 inch oval head! I usually have trouble finding helmets that are small and narrow enough for me. This is especially hard when it comes to skate-style helmets. This fits like a glove. The dial provides some extra snugness and allows me to adjust the fit depending on my hairstyle that day. I have tried so so so many helmets and it’s awesome to find one that’s such a comfortable and perfect fit. It’s also thick and protective without giving me that “mushroom” effect. I’m delighted!
kennyd1gital –
Great helmet. Comfortable, breathable, ratchet system snugs up nicely. Get it and go skate.
Aaron –
I use this on my bike and it works fine. It feels pretty snug, but for me that’s a feature, not a bug. I haven’t had to play with the thicker pads yet, but if anything I’d be looking to make it looser. I’m also happy to not be wearing a goofy wavy helmet; this thing looks as good as a bike/skate helmet can and I don’t get self conscious having my coworkers see me in it.
Em –
Most comfortable helmet I’ve ever worn, although I haven’t worn a lot lol. It’s very well fitted and I feel safer and more confident when I ride.

My husband said this was a great fit! He is teaching our son how to skate, and even though he survived the 90’s, helmets are mandatory now. Kiddo also got a different style from the same company, also awesome fit and comfort!

I’m using this helmet for bowl riding on my surfskate.
Quality – They spared no expense during manufacturing the helmet as the attention to detail is evident. The helmet’s matte finish is immaculate. The fit pads and MIPs liner are precisely placed. Even the rivets are embossed.
Fit –
The ability to dial in the sizing allowed for a very secure and comfortable fit.
Function –
It has a fantastic ventilation system that has kept my head cool and sweating to a minimum. I hope I never have to test the MIPs technology. But the dual certification and MIPs has given me the confidence to practice in the bowl.
I was so impressed with all of its qualities that I purchased several other helmets from Triple8

Love this helmet! I have sustained multiple head injuries in sports and can not take the chance on being injured (outcomes or expenses of) anymore. I love this helmet- it is a high end design with the best protection technology. It is breathable and sits right, there is a band which you use to tighten to the size of your head rather than getting a generic size which would rattle around skating. Knowing this helmet fits exactly as it needs to to protect my brain gives me the confidence to skate to my highest ability.

I am petite and find regular hats are awkward on my head as it’s smaller than average. I saw a lady’s review saying it doesn’t give them mushroom head so I took a chance.. but when I put this helmet on, boy oh boy, did it give me a laugh with some embarrassment. Yeah, I know–we wear it for our protection, but I just had to return it and find one that doesn’t give what I found to be ‘mushroom head’. Other than that, I loved how comfortable this helmet was, with MIPS, and how there’s a lip on the top–it made it easy for a headlamp to sit without slipping, when night falls during skating. I kinda miss this helmet but made my decision. Try for yourself! I recommend it–maybe you won’t look as mushroom-headed as I did in this! You’ll also surely be safe in it, definitely.

This is my second triple eight helmet, only bought another one cause i somehow lost my first helmet.
But that very first helmet is the reason i went with triple 8 again.
I was riding my longboard downhill, pretty steep hill.
Unlucky me, there was a speed-bump, reminiscent of a step in a stairway, 2 inches above the concrete.
My wheel got stuck, my trucks broke and i landed straight on my head.
I heard birds chirping (no joke) and faded out for mere seconds, but i was fine by the time my friend got to me.
I’m pretty sure that blow would have killed me.
This was before MIPS was even a thing.
So I feel pretty confident purchasing triple eight products.
(Video attached is not from my fall, just a bit of what I’ve put my helmet through)

Very good helmet overall, and I think most would find it comfortable. The fit adjustment dial seems to work well, and I haven’t had to make any adjustments while riding. The ventilation is rather poor, as others have mentioned. Fewer openings or holes probably help protect the head, but the small amount that circulates can make this helmet feel extra hot on summer days. I’d love a bigger hole for putting a U-lock or medium cable lock through.

So far, so good. I bought this helmet to wear while riding on roads in late afternoon/evening hours with my “Da Brim” visor. Now I can ride westerly with shade only face. This is a MIPS Helmet so I like that. It fits well. It works well with the visor, and it is comfortable. I had the choice of white for black, and hose black, however in retrospect, The white helmet would better choice for ridding after dark. and I assume would also be cooler during the day time as well. The solid abs plastic shell is certainly an upgrade for the thin plastic shell on my previous helmet.

Great helmet. Comfortable, breathable, ratchet system snugs up nicely. Get it and go skate.

Bethany Stein –

I have a 22 inch head so selected small/medium. And it did fit on the largest setting, but it presses uncomfortably into my temples. Upsetting because it looks so good, matches my elbow pads, and I need MIPS but got the Small/medium on sale and the larger size isn’t on sale. So I bought a Smith one on sale instead.
