  1. M.D.S. –

I bought this to use with my Insta360 camera. It was easy to install, works right out of the box and comes the right mounting accessories for my bike.

The only problem I have is with the interface. I bought the 540 because it was the most reasonably priced but the lack of a touch interface kind of made me regret not getting the more premium version. Although once I set it up, it worked perfectly.

  2. Irving Aldape Sanchez –

Bastante responsivo, ideal para los entrenamientos

  3. Rogerio Perussi Nunes –

Recebi o produto antes do esperado , em perfeitas condições.
    Tudo certo !!

  4. Amazon Customer –

Had a lower specs gps for my rides and this Edge 540 is such a big improvement. Lots of stats, suggestions and you can add all devices out there. Started with hear rate and cadence. Set up and installation is straighforward and fast. Battery is also pretty good.

  5. Thomas –

If you want a fitness watch for your bike this is for you it does that very well. I can’t knock the product in that regard it is an excellent fitness tracker. But if all you want is a gps to tell you how to get from point a to point b on rail trails and other off road route planning it is not very good. Great at tracking where you have been and all off the fitness tracking I formation. My cell phone and google maps still is still significantly faster, and easier to use than this particular product for route planning.

  6. Red101 –

I was having some problems with some features on my Garmin and reached out to customer service in. They were great at fixing the problem.. love how it works. I just wish when creating courses that you could put a marker in for food stops.

  7. Elapolinar –

Aunque aun lo ando probando aún, como siempre, los dispositivos garmin cumplen con las expectativas, en este caso el 540 está en el umbral de la gama alta con todas las prestaciones del 840 salvo por no ser de pantalla táctil….

  8. Max R. –

I bought this as my first bike computer and absolutely enjoy it! There are so many features but I resort to the basics. Great battery life and intuitive use during my rides.

  9. Denis Dufresne –

    Très bien

  10. Bob Stammerjohan –

Does a very accurate job of recording ride with a long battery life. Also display is easy to read in sunlight while riding. However, it is more complicated to use than my previous Edge 520. Has many many features that I will never use that add to its complexity. It also has a USB-C connection, so I had to buy an adaptor to connect it to my iMac.

  11. Larissa Paes –

I had a Garmin 810 before this, and definitely have been happy with the upgrade. The buttons are easy to navigate and less frustrating than trying to use touchscreen with sweaty hands or gloves during winter.
The maps are great, and I love the performance features.

  12. Diggergreg –

Connects to the power meter great and delivers metrics as needed.

  13. Terry Lewandowski –

Received my Garmin Edge 540 and have done ~5 rides with it now. It is a 5 star product (from my limited use so far), but there are a few things to note…

    The Good:
    —————
    – You can configure the display screen to show the stats you care about. I have the max showing (10 stats), and find it is easily readable when you glance down.

    – It comes with the ability to mount in on your stem or in front. I prefer in front

    – I can do multiple rides with one charge, so you don’t need to recharge after every ride (of course, depends how long you ride for

    – Seemed to be no issue on a rainy day when I was out, and on really sunny days. This is well made and no issues in the conditions I have rode in so far. (Note have not done any really ‘dark’ conditions yet)

    The Bad:
    —————
    – Remember to power it down completely after your side is done (and saved), so it conserves the battery. I did not the first time, and assumed when it went to power save mode/screen went blank, it would conserve power. Instead, when I was about to ride 2 days later, it was at zero power. Had to spend 15 minutes to get it to ~20%. So just make sure you power off when you are done.

    – When doing the “hill climbs” on it (where it prompts you that you are on a known climb), there seems to be a lag from when it realizes you are on the hill, and a lag when you are done. Nothing major, maybe ~5-10 seconds difference. But it is noticable.

    Other Notes:
    —————
    – If you connect to a Garmin Varia, the first time it will ask you to update the radar software. It takes about 8 minutes. While you can skip this and ride, I just recommend you plan for this and connect them ~10 minutes before you ride

    OVERALL
    —————
I would recommend this for any cyclist who wants a computer on their bike. The few cons I have seen so far are minor vs how well it works in general.

Note I have this connected to a Garmin Varia read radar/light, a speed sensor, a cadence sensor, and a heart rate chest strap (all by Garmin). All connected with no issue.

  14. Coach Sugi –

I bought this to go with my gravel bike as I’m using a power meter and cadence sensor. I have a Garmin 130 plus that I use for MTBs. I love the 130 for the small size that I mount on a K Edge top cap mount. The screen is just a bit too small for all the data so I went with the 540 Solar. So far it’s great and I’m still learning all the features. I did not need the touch screen abilities of the 840 and I like the much cheaper cost of the 540

  15. Terry Lewandowski –

Why did you choose this product over others?:
I believed it was the market leader and it was a best buy recommendation form a bike magazine. Shockingly badly designed software and so outdated.

  16. D. Glasser –

This bike computer is so cool. It quickly connects to my heart rate monitor and power meter, finds the GPS signal, and is good to ride for hours.

I use it with both my indoor trainer and road bike, and it has multiple riding profiles that makes it easy to switch between the two in just a few seconds.

The large display is easy to read quickly while riding, even in direct sunlight or shade.

  17. Hassan_Tie –

    Good Quality & Fast Delivery.

  18. John B. –

Simple to use. Brightness is good, solar charging is a bonus. Touch screen would be nice, but for the price… can’t complain.

  19. SFJMG –

upgraded from 520, works much better. The solar is a nice addition adding aprox. 15% during summer

  20. Hassan_Tie –

Un increíble ciclocomputador, Garmin nunca decepciona. Para ser mi primer ciclocomputador es facil de entender, manejar y vincular a tus dispositivos.

No te arrepentirás de comprarlo :D

  21. Rafael Henao –

As always, Garmin is the best option. Highly reliable, lots of cool functions, highly simple to use

  22. Chase –

It works great for the rides I do. No problems several years in.

  23. Peter Kevin Reeves –

I’ve been using my iPhone to track my health and my rides, but it has its limitations. With health, podcasts/music, and GPS, your iPhone and Apple Watch will run out of power in 3-4 hours. A dedicated bike computer has more than enough power, and if you plan on getting more sensors (Cadence, speed, heart rate) it manages all of that and passes the data back to your phone at the end of the ride. The button interface takes some getting used to (the 840 has a more friend touch screen, but costs more. It also doesn’t natively work with your Apple Watch as a heart monitor. You can kludge it, but its not intuitive. But having your ride information right in front of you makes a world of difference. No regrets, good useful product. But a bit of a learning curve.

  24. PH –

Great first buke computer. Does all I need to do and then some. Easy to use with outstanding battery life. If it’s on sale don’t hesitate to grab it

  25. Ernie J. –

Best decision I’ve made so far!
I am absolutely thrilled with my new Garmin Edge 540 cycling computer! From the moment I started using it, I’ve been incredibly happy with its performance and the wealth of features it offers. It has truly revolutionized my cycling experience and significantly contributed to improving my performance on every ride.
One of the greatest standout features, and something my previous unit sorely lacked, is the hill climbing feature. Knowing what’s coming, how much elevation is left, and being able to pace myself accordingly has been an absolute game-changer. It’s an invaluable tool for optimizing my effort and tackling climbs with a newfound strategy and confidence. This alone makes the 540 worth every penny.
Before purchasing, I was aware that the Garmin Edge 540 was not a touchscreen unit like the 840, but honestly, this was not a huge issue for me. The button interface is intuitive and easy to navigate, even with gloves on, and I’ve found it to be incredibly responsive and reliable. The clarity of the display and the ease of use have far outweighed any desire for a touchscreen.
Beyond the fantastic hill climbing feature, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed utilizing all the other capabilities of the 540. From precise GPS tracking and clear navigation prompts to detailed performance metrics and seamless integration with my other sensors, every feature works flawlessly. I’m constantly impressed by how much data I can access and how effectively it helps me analyze my rides and pinpoint areas for improvement.
To any cyclist considering a new computer, I wholeheartedly and enthusiastically recommend the Garmin Edge 540. If you’re looking for a robust, feature-rich, and incredibly reliable device that will genuinely help you elevate your cycling performance, look no further. This is a product that delivers on all its promises and then some!

  26. J. Whittle –

I had an old Garmin Edge 530 and the screen was starting to fall off. (I dropped it a few times.) When I bought the 540, I thought that I’d have to reenter all my settings. No! Using Garmin connect, it carried over things like my height, weight, screen settings, and even the altitude of my home! The 540 does a lot more things than my old 530, but I’ll probably not use most of them. I did find the climbing displace interesting.

  27. eta –

I purchased this after losing my Wahoo off the back of my truck. The screen has a sharp picture. The batteries and solar charge seem to work well. But after trying to set it up. I decided to send it back. Navigation on this device is difficult. Pairing is Okay but screen setup is frustrating. So, I ordered a new Roam.

  28. TDR Auto –

I was so close returning this, My sensor were dropping connection, GPS would not work, my friend told me to do factory reset and it works like a charm ever since. I did a 100 mile ride the other day and the battery is still over 75%. Little harder to use since it’s more packed with features compared to Wahoo Roam, but starting to like this more and more!

  29. Retrosphere 90z –

I paired this Garmin Edge 540 Solar with the Garmin rear light, and oh boy!! it’s a total game changer on the road! 🚴‍♂️☀️ The solar charging is amazing, and the GPS keeps me on track without any worries. It’s super easy to use, reliable, and makes cycling safer and way more fun. Highly recommend for anyone who loves hitting the road with confidence! 🙌

I used this for my route on a bike tour, and on the tour it was great! However cycling about my home area it gets iffy. Mostly if i divert from the planned route at all! Like I will follow a generated route and it wants me to cross a highway just to do a 30 foot loop and rejoin the highway… Ok i’ll just not do that and just turn down the highway and ride the shoulder…. Well how dare I do that!!!! It will then proceed to try everything in its power to loop me back to that highway and have me cross it. If i Ignore the first re route it will then just plan a massive loop back to the spot it wants me to correct Ignoring the fact that I’m currently on the Route I just skipped that little loop! Other then that it’s been great, works with all my sensors, seems to track speed fine even if my sensor is dead. Its overpriced for sure but i think the software it comes with makes up for the value some. The battery life is decent it will at least last several hours like 8 no problem!

This New computer 540 solar Last The double of Time, Than, My Old 520 and Is Easy To read, customize, it gives you All The Information You Need. I love the route feature. I Do recomend This Computer to Anyone.

I’ve been using the Garmin Edge 540 for a few weeks now, and overall, it’s an impressive upgrade from my older cycling computer. The build quality is solid, and the device feels premium. The display is crisp and easy to read, even in bright sunlight, and the battery life has been excellent—lasting several long rides without issue.

What I really like is the updated interface and button-only control. While some might miss the touchscreen, I find the physical buttons more reliable, especially when wearing gloves or riding in the rain. The ClimbPro feature and the improved navigation with multi-band GPS are huge pluses, offering more accurate data and better route guidance.

The integration with Garmin Connect and other third-party platforms works well, and syncing is fast and reliable. I also appreciate the training and performance metrics, which help me stay on track with my fitness goals.

My only real gripe is the initial setup process—it felt a bit clunky and took longer than expected to get everything dialed in. Also, for the price, I would have liked to see a mount with more versatility included in the box.

Still, the Edge 540 is a powerful tool for serious cyclists and definitely worth considering. Just be ready for a small learning curve.

  38. Amazon Customer –

I recently purchased the Garmin Edge 540 Solar and couldn’t be happier with it.
I’m getting back into cycling and needed a proper upgrade from my previous Garmin Edge that I bought back in 2007 — and wow, what an upgrade this is.
There is a small learning curve with the button-based controls, but once you understand the flow of the menus, it all makes sense. With larger hands, I had no issues at all using the buttons, and I’m actually glad I didn’t go with a touchscreen model. I almost bought the 840 but couldn’t justify spending an extra $350 — and now I’m very glad I didn’t.
I chose the Solar version purely because it was on a better sale and ended up cheaper than the non-solar model. I don’t expect the solar charging to benefit me much personally, but at that price it was a no-brainer. That said, the battery life is outstanding — I’m genuinely impressed.
I use the Edge 540 both indoors and outdoors, and switching between profiles is very quick and straightforward. I also appreciate how many data fields you can display at once — having up to 10 real-time data fields is fantastic if you like seeing cadence, heart rate, speed, time, etc. all at once.
I was previously using a Garmin Venu for cycling and had some doubts about wrist-based heart rate accuracy. As part of setting up the Edge 540 with Garmin Connect, all my existing sensors automatically transferred over, which was a really nice surprise. I also paired a new HRM 200 heart rate strap (my old one was nearly 20 years old), and everything worked flawlessly.
One thing I really like is that Garmin includes multiple mounting options. I added an extra mount so I can easily move the Edge 540 between my road bike and my mountain bike. It takes seconds to swap over and makes the device much more versatile without needing a second computer.
Maps are new to me, and I’m still learning that side of things, but they’ve already proven useful. I also liked that some of the setup could be done from my phone, which made initial configuration easier.
One thing I don’t want is music controls or extra “smartwatch” features on a bike computer — I use my phone for that. The Edge 540 focuses on doing cycling data extremely well, and that’s exactly what I wanted.
My advice: take some time to learn the device and set it up the way you like. Once you do, it’s an incredibly powerful and intuitive cycling computer.
    Highly recommended.

I’ve been super happy with this unit. I searched and looked at all the various models from the big brands. I eventually landed on the Garmin 540. It has all the functionality I need and was a perfect price. The screen size is adequate and makes it easy to mount. The lack of a touch screen is the only thing I’d maybe consider upgrading for but honestly with sweaty fingers on a good ride the physical buttons make it easier to manipulate anyways. The Garmin app is also great

  44. Andrew –

Must have for cycling. All computers take some time to get the settings to what you want but the edge 540 is pretty good once you get it set up

  45. Al Beckett –

This computer seems to work OK but it is a challenge to figure out how to use it. Included instructions are not clear at all. I am sure I will figure it out sooner or later and it will end up being very useful.

  46. Peter –

Prior gen, very long battery life. Very confusing with inadequate manual. Solar does nothing, was same price as non-solar when I bought it. Screen brightness is ok.

Gives access to Garmin training ecosystem.

    Happy with purchase.

  47. Meghan –

Purchased for my husband’s bike! He has so enjoy this! pairing it with his phone and heart rate monitor, he no longer needs to wear his watch! Hello no funny tan lines!!! The product is high quality and battery lasts for so long. It is the perfect size for his bike and has yet to have an issue connecting to his phone or the directions.

High recommendation if you can afford it (it was a fancier christmas present for us)

  48. Hassan_Tie –

  49. Saiful –

Been using the Edge 540 for a few months now on my road rides and honestly it’s hard to find fault with it. I went back and forth between this and the higher-end Garmin units (the 840, 1040 etc) and I’m so glad I saved the money and got this one instead.

The GPS accuracy is the standout for me. Tracks are spot on, elevation data is consistent, and it locks onto satellites fast even under tree cover. Paired it with my heart rate strap and speed/cadence sensors with zero issues. Climb Pro, the maps, training stuff — it’s all here, just on a smaller screen.

The button controls are a personal win too. I sweat a lot and ride in the rain sometimes, and buttons just work better than a touchscreen when your fingers are wet or you’ve got gloves on. Never had a mis-tap.

If you’re staring at the price gap between this and the bigger Garmins wondering if the premium ones are worth it — for most of us, they’re not. The 540 gives you basically the same data and accuracy for a lot less. Best budget pick in the Garmin lineup, full stop. Battery lasts my long rides no problem.

  56. Baris –

Unlike other series, it’s not very large, which is an advantage for me. It’s a must-have for road cycling.

  57. Mathew M. Rose –

I’m pretty much DONE with Garmin products at this point. Out of the box, the device hangs up on the power-on screen. None of the buttons have any functionality and cannot get it off of the initial screen. The cables that come with the device are flawed as, even when plugged into my laptop, the Garmin Connect platform cannot see the device. Similarly, the pairing with my iPhone 17 doesn’t work. The phone can see the device, but there’s no way to interact with the device. This is a 100% straight in the trash purchase. I’m going to try a Wahoo after I return this utter piece of garbage.

  58. Mathew M. Rose –

  59. Phil –

Great cycling product….mountain biking. Only negative observation is that navigating screens & setting up takes a bit of a learning curve. Owners manual only available online & is too long to print (84 pages) Must be selective in what it is important to print.

  60. Luly –

    Good Quality & Fast Delivery.

  61. NavyMoose –

Fantastic computer. Big upgrade from my Edge 530. It captures my metrics better than the Edge 530 did. I wish Garmin could capture METs as a metric, but I found a back way to get that number.

I primarily ride indoors and I have not tried out the GPS. It connects flawlessly with my HRM 200, cadence sensor, and speed sensor.

The use of a USB-C cable is a nice change, I can use the same iPhone cable for my cycling computer that I can for my iPhone.

It is easy to create indoor cycling training and it keeps track of my laps automatically vs having to click the “lap” button for my training.

  62. Rodney G. –

The Garmin Edge 540 offers an excellent balance of features and price. In my opinion, it has everything a cyclist needs for training and everyday riding.

This is my first cycling computer, and I couldn’t be happier with it. It has been incredibly helpful for all of my training sessions. It’s compact, the screen is easy to read in all conditions, and the button controls make it simple and reliable to use.

Even though it’s no longer the newest model, it still provides everything most cyclists could ever need in a compact and durable package. I highly recommend it.

  63. Kenneth Jones –

Perfect just what i needed. Traded my 820 in for this push button only model as the 820 touch screen never worked as I wanted it to.

Very helpful while riding your bike. Works great. Easy to setup and work with. Very happy I got it when price was reasonable

  65. Leslie Alvarez –

Why did you choose this product over others?:

I believed it was the market leader and it was a best buy recommendation form a bike magazine. Shockingly badly designed software and so outdated.

  66. Kyle C. –

awesome bike computer, lots of options and ways to customize depending on what type of biking you do

  67. Hassan_Tie –

  68. Amazon Customer –

Love it. A good value for the price. Easy to read.

  69. Logan Sobczak –

This is a great “starter” GPS bike computer. Integrates well with existing Garmin products, install is really easy, battery life is great.

Great product from Garmin. I bought This computer, To Replace my old 520 computer That Was Failing.

Great cycling product….mountain biking. Only negative observation is that navigating screens & setting up takes a bit of a learning curve. Owners manual only available online & is too long to print (84 pages) Must be selective in what it is important to print.

Perfect just what i needed. Traded my 820 in for this push button only model as the 820 touch screen never worked as I wanted it to.

Very helpful while riding your bike. Works great. Easy to setup and work with. Very happy I got it when price was reasonable

Why did you choose this product over others?:

I believed it was the market leader and it was a best buy recommendation form a bike magazine. Shockingly badly designed software and so outdated.

awesome bike computer, lots of options and ways to customize depending on what type of biking you do

Love it. A good value for the price. Easy to read.

This is a great “starter” GPS bike computer. Integrates well with existing Garmin products, install is really easy, battery life is great.
