I had been using a wool balaclava for years; they were the ones with open eye sockets, nose and mouth orifices. They were heavy, constrictive and overall, they were not as comfortable as I wanted. I discovered this pair which not only had better visibility, breathability, multiple ways of wearing it and much more comfortable as well as keeping my face warm. Also, my hearing is not impaired which is ofter an overlooked feature but which may well prove to be an indispensable safety feature. With a good pair of goggles, I am now fully protected from harsh wind, snow and ice while outside. These are perfect for my needs and I expect you will feel the same. Oh yes, they are well made and I expect them to wear very well.

Could’ve bought a cheaper one but glad I made the right choice because it has really good mix of materials. Very soft and doesnt wrinkle easily. Perfect thickness. The mouth part is fenestrated which is perfect for breathing while skiing!

The Balaclava Ski Mask is perfect for cold-weather activities! I’ve used it for skiing and motorcycle riding, and it provides excellent protection from the wind and cold without feeling bulky. The material is soft, breathable, and stretches comfortably to fit snugly without being too tight. It covers my entire face, neck, and head, leaving just enough room for goggles or glasses. I love that it’s versatile enough to wear in different styles, and it keeps me warm in freezing temperatures. Whether you’re skiing, snowboarding, or riding in the winter, this mask is a must-have for staying comfortable and protected. Highly recommend!

This face mask was a life saver for me. I was overseas where sometimes the temperature dropped to single digits. I really like the net part which makes breathing easier while walking. It keeps your head warm. Most of the time I would wear a hat which may be too much. Gets a little to warm. The reason for the 3 stars is that this will bleed when washed so make sure you only wash it with all dark clothes. I also noticed that if I wore a light color sweatshirt it would sometimes bleed onto the fabric, not a lot. However, it does come off once you wash it. Overall great in keeping you warm.

Balaclava was an excellent buy for my son, who had practices through out the winter, outdoors. was breathable, nice fit, was comfortable and kept his head warm.
would comment it this particular Balaclava to anyone.

This balaclava ski mask has quickly become a must-have in my winter gear collection. Whether I’m hitting the slopes, riding my motorcycle, or just braving a cold day, this mask delivers in every way.
Warm and Cozy: The material is soft and insulating, keeping my face, neck, and head warm even in freezing temperatures. It’s perfect for those chilly mornings when the wind is biting, providing full coverage without being bulky.
Breathable and Comfortable: Despite its warmth, the mask is surprisingly breathable. I never feel suffocated or overheated, even during intense activities like skiing or snowboarding. The fabric wicks away moisture, keeping me dry and comfortable throughout the day.
Versatile Fit: The design is flexible and fits comfortably under my helmet, making it ideal for motorcycle riding as well. It stretches to accommodate different head sizes, so both men and women can wear it without any issues.
Durable and High-Quality: The stitching is strong and well-finished, ensuring this mask will last through many winters. It’s been through multiple washes and still looks and feels brand new.
Multi-Purpose Use: I love how versatile this mask is. Whether I’m skiing, snowboarding, biking, or just taking a walk on a cold day, this balaclava provides the protection and warmth I need. It’s also great for layering under other gear.
If you’re looking for a reliable and comfortable winter face mask, this balaclava is a fantastic choice. It’s become an essential part of my cold-weather wardrobe, and I highly recommend it for anyone who spends time outdoors in the winter.

I (5’9″ woman with average sized head) bought two of these two years ago, and am now buying a third so that my two kids and I all have one. My 7yo and 10yo boys have heads the same size as mine (they inherited giant heads from their dad, lol), and this balaclava works great for both of them and for myself. It’s not terribly thick, but if it were it wouldn’t fit under a helmet well, and it’s thick enough to keep us warm! We’ve used them 3-5 times a year for the past two years (we don’t generally use them unless the temps dip down in to the teens or lower, not counting wind-chill), and I’ve put them through the dryer numerous times and the washer several times, and these have held up well. The face-covering portion is just right–not too tight and not too loose. For adults with huge heads, though, this probably won’t be ideal–it’s too small to be comfortable for my husband (he wears size 8 in baseball hats, for reference).
Carol –
I’ve been using it during my morning cycling sessions, and it’s been fantastic for keeping the chill at bay. The protection it offers from the wind and the October cold, around 40°F, is impressive. It keeps my face, neck, and head warm, which makes a big difference on those brisk early rides. The material feels soft against the skin, and the snug fit provides comfort without being too tight or restricting.
Wearing it under a helmet is no problem at all; it fits perfectly without adding bulk or making the helmet feel uncomfortable. One of the best features is its versatility – I can easily slip the face mask down when I just want to use it as a hat, which is really convenient for times when I need to cool down a bit. Overall, it’s an excellent choice for anyone needing reliable cold-weather protection for outdoor activities like cycling, skiing, snowboarding.

It’s a early Christmas gift for my son who works in frigid conditions at his job,he loves it for the light weight material and comfort. Thank you!

I bought this for my grandson because he works in a freezer for 10 hours a day. He said that this kept him very warm. Great quality product and for the price it’s a great value. He had a employee asked him where he got it. The size was great. I washed it first and air dried it. I didn’t want it to shrink if I put it in the dryer. So working in conditions that are below freezing, this is a must have.
Brandi227 –
Wish the nose was ergonomicly cut/sewn to fit against sides of nose, It just lays across and smashes it down a little too uncomfortably. Also because of this design Not being fitted to the nose it causes any breathing to blow up and out around bridge of your nose, blowing aire straight into my eyes drying them out. I could see this causing fogging issues for glasses or contacts wearers. Pros: I do think it would cut down on windburn because the cheeks are double layered and reinforced nicely. Soft material, length was good.

So I’ve been trying to get out to ride my bike later in the year. (Chicago) As the weather gets colder I need to keep the wind off me to stay warm. The algorithms pushed this up to the top on Amazon so I figured for 20 bucks why not. I was kind of surprised when I got it how thin it is. You realistically could ball it up in your fist and close your fingers over it and it would be hidden, its really like that thin. I expected more meat on the bone. I have used this now for rides down to 40° it’s worked out well. It does keep me warm, enough. Fit wise, I’ve got a fat head and it fits OK, I wouldn’t want it a lot smaller but I don’t think most of you out there have as fat of a head as I and it doesn’t appear to come in sizes. Also, I don’t have a lot of hair. That’s good and bad. Keeps me from getting dates, but makes my head circumference smaller.
The mask covering your mouth you can pull down to your chin, which is nice and its not overly “pully” on the rest of the hat (?). Its somewhat breathable if you use it to cover your mouth. I haven’t ridden with it covering my nose much as that makes it (for me) harder to breathe, but that’s my problem not the product. Side benefit I’ve got headsets on and I can now talk on the phone because if you pull this over your ears, it blocks out wind noise meaning people can hear you talk on the headphone (Jlab, in the ear type). It’s worth buying for all but your arctic adventure, for that you might need more “meat”.

Bough for him to use at work and he said the quality was great! Looks well put together and sturdy material!

I bought this last October for cold weather motorcycle riding but I haven’t been able to find it yet this year. I was looking at alternatives but I figured for the price, next day shipping, and how freaking good this balaclava is, why look elsewhere?
I used this every single ride last winter in freezing temps (Western, NY) and it worked great. Fit perfectly under my helmet, the material is very nice, it’s durable, didn’t lose its shape as I put my helmet on or during rides, kept my face, neck and head warm and I never felt a draft. It was pretty amazing… the fact that I was out riding in 30°F weather for hours and felt perfectly comfortable. Without this balaclava I would freeze!
Can’t wait to ride with this again. Something about having the right gear and riding comfortably while most people retire their bikes for the winter is pretty cool. Goretex, Thinsulate, merino wool, some good cold weather riding pants and jacket, maybe some heated gloves and you’re good to go!
I can imagine this mask would work just as good for snowmobiling, skiing and any other snow sports, hiking, working outside, under a hard hat… fine product, 5 ⭐️

Jun –
It’s light, stretches around your face just fine without breaking, and I like the camo and design of it.
I wear glasses, so it kept fogging them up unless I adjusted and shifted it perfectly around my face and nose, which made me think it could’ve been improved if there was some sort of wire that could stay and wrap around the top of your face to trap your breath below your eyes.
It wasn’t as easy to use as I would’ve liked it to be because of that, but that’s only an issue for others who wear glasses like me.
It also works as intended. Your breath goes out the little thing in the middle of it, so condensation doesn’t build up and freeze and make you colder when it’s really cold, and it traps in the warmth of your breath, so no more runny nose from the cold, or frozen noses.
It got to the negative twenties last winter, when I bought this, and it worked perfectly.
You can also throw it in the washing and drying machine without any bleach or rough cleaning agents on a very gentle setting, since cleaning it with water and drying it in the winter by hand has its notable challenges.

The Tough Headwear Balaclava Ski Mask is a must-have for anyone braving the cold! It’s incredibly warm, offering excellent protection against wind and freezing temperatures. The material is soft, comfortable, and feels snug without being too tight.
It fits perfectly under helmets for skiing or snowboarding, and it’s versatile enough for other cold-weather activities. Whether you’re out in the snow or just need extra warmth on chilly days, this mask keeps you cozy.
If you’re looking for a reliable, warm, and functional winter mask, this one does the job exceptionally well. Highly recommend for anyone in cold climates!
Jorge Miranda –
Works great in the cold and while working. It is easy to breathe in and isn’t heavy, but is still going to keep your face warm and protected from the wind
B. Powers –
Thin material is not what I would describe to as “for cold weather”, this doesn’t retain warmth very well. I expected a little thicker material. Used once in 40+ degree temps and wished I had worn my other face mask for wind protection. The size is a good fit. Overall still a good value for the money.

I was very happy with how nicely this fit and did not slide around on my face. I liked that you can pull down the face mask portion below your chin and it does not pull the head portion or move it at all.
It is thin enough that a winter hat or a helmet could be worn comfortably over it. I plan to use this for hunting in cold Wisconsin weather.

Took this mask on a ski trip with 7º temperatures, 15mph winds, while snowing. I wore it will OTG goggles and glasses and have a well endowed nose. Expectations hopefully set.
It was comfortable and kept me warm. The fabric is great and fit well under a helmet. It did not prevent fogging of my glasses and I spent much of my trip fighting with that.
I think its a great mask if fog is not your primary concern.

Honestly, wasn’t sure one this one due to the low price but I am blown away by the performance. I work outside year round in northern US where it reaches ambient temps of -20 Fahrenheit with a real feel of -50 or colder woth wind. This blocks the wind and I rarely notice the cold on my neck and face. My only complaints doesn’t reflect on the balaclava at all just my nose holds it too far from my face to seal properly, would work amazing if you’re wearing goggles or something to force it to your face better.
10/10 would recommend and have recommend it to my boss to be a part of our normal provided winter PPE
LAUREN TRUJILLO –
One size does not fit all. The head portion just fits okay but the the side stitching cuts across the ear and is very uncomfortable. The neck gaiter portion is too long and narrow. The neck and face are too loose allowing a lot of shifting of the mask. The mask does not prevent fogging of glasses. Antifogging works better when wearing goggles. Since the gaiter is long and loose it naturally wants to cover my entire face, also impractical and uncomfortable. It’s warm but probably only down to about 30-35 degrees depending on personal tolerance. I wish I had a fuller face to fill it out.
Ed K –
Very warm and does a great job blocking out the cold, especially in windy conditions. The material feels comfortable and well made. The only downside is the fit — it’s not quite perfect and could be more adjustable. Overall, a solid ski mask that works well for warmth.

I bought the Tough Headwear Camo Face Mask for hiking and cold weather activities, and I’m really impressed! The fabric is soft yet durable, providing warmth without being too bulky. It fits snugly and comfortably, and I love the camo design—it’s perfect for blending in during outdoor adventures.
The breathability is great, and I can wear it for hours without feeling restricted. It also provides great protection against wind, dust, and cold, making it a must-have for any outdoor enthusiast. Excellent two-piece design from material with a fleece backing that minimizes air flow while retaining warmth. I wear a 7 1/4 cap, and this fits snugly while the material expands to fit larger heads. I was eyeing this product for a year while researching which balaclava would be the most ideal for skiing. This is not it. While it is definitely warm, it does not form a fit to my face well. If I tried to adjust and pull it down, the top portion is too thick to breathe through. My eyeglasses fogged up immediately. Once the goggles were on, I could not see or breathe. I ended up pulling it all the way down to expose my face.

Excellent balaclava. Bought for use while working EMS in central New York
Useful for keeping your face warm and doesn’t “bunch” when wearing the face piece pulled below then chin. It’s lightweight enough to put in a pocket, but kept me warm at a house fire in -25 degrees Fahrenheit with wind chill.
Minimal condensation, and very breathable.
Only criticism is that I wish this brand had a camo version for hunting!

Great fabric soft and warm! Protects the face from the elements while keeping your temp regulated. Only issue I see is the seams pulled a little apart at the corners not by much nor is it too noticeable but while washing I’ve noticed and watching to see if it’ll come undone with the wash or hold together. Overall great design, good price, and the fit is perfect!

Outstanding product…warm, comfortable and breathable. The hinge makes it easy to move it down off your nose to under your chin. The material is soft and warm. The nose and mouth section is breathable, your goggles don’t fog.

We purchased this to use for Winter activities and it did not disappoint! It isn’t the thickest material, however it is fleece lined and kept us warm. The mesh area around the mouth is a nice feature and makes it easier to breathe. I wouldn’t say this material is waterproof, however it did dry quickly. Overall we’re very happy with our purchase.

My teen son is obsessed with snowboarding, so anything that keeps him warm on the mountain immediately gets tested.
This balaclava covers the neck, face, and head while still fitting comfortably under a helmet. The fabric feels lightweight and stretchy, so it stays snug without feeling bulky.
He uses it for cold lift rides and windy runs, and it helps keep his face and neck protected when the temperature drops.
It has quietly become one of those pieces of gear that ends up in the snowboard bag every trip.

Cumplió mis expectativas, es delgado, pero mantiene bien el calor, sin sofocar, el tamaño es bueno, se seca rápido. Lo he usado en varias montañas en México y no he tenido problemas.

Really love this product. I ran in 40 degree weather and my lungs hurt for several days. I bought this and it not only kept my head warm, but I was able to run in 30 degree weather without hurting my chest or lungs. It’s lightweight for those warmer days, but heavy enough to keep you warm when it’s cold. You can also easily move the move cover off or on depending on your needs. Fits great, the size was perfect, and I can wear it in any situation.

This is quite large so unless you have a large head it’s pretty awkward if you want to put under a ski helmet. It seems well made. However I find the material to be a bit rough in several places so it not great for a long day out in the snow. Price is lower than the more comfortable ones I bought the kids so guess it’s a get what you pay for product.

Honestly, wasn’t sure one this one due to the low price but I am blown away by the performance. The mesh part lost half of its threading after one use. One use! ONE! (use).
That aside, this was pretty good for even -10°F overnight runs in blizzards, which is what I used it for over months. Up until this purchase I had just “toughed it out” and ran into walls of icy wind for 8-16 hours a day/night. But this year I thought I would give one of these a try. Overall, this was a great product but understand that out of the box the mesh panel is going to completely unspool itself on day 1 and by day 3 it will have fallen off completely.
So I rate the mesh portion a 0/5, it fell off immediately. I rate the rest of this mask a 4/5 because aside from the mesh it did well when faced with 50 MPH winds, typhoons and unprecedented blizzards for extended periods of time.

I’ve used this balaclava in cold and windy weather, and it does exactly what it’s supposed to do. It does a great job of keeping the wind off your face while also keeping your ears, neck, and head warm without feeling bulky.
One thing I really like is how comfortable it is. I can wear it for hours without it getting irritating or feeling too tight. The material is soft, breathes well, and fits nicely under a hood or helmet.
If you’re outside working, hiking, riding a motorcycle, hunting, skiing, or just dealing with cold weather, this is definitely worth picking up. It’s well made, comfortable enough to wear all day, and keeps you warm when the wind really starts blowing.
Highly recommended!

⁃ I use this balaclava to interchange between it and the Nike hyperwarm balaclava which I also purchased on Amazon and written a review on. I will therefore compare the toughgear balaclava with the Nike one. I may be nitpicking but I did find some advantages and disadvantages. The disadvantages may have been magnified by the fact that I had used the Nike balaclava for 2 seasons a prior to using the toughgear and was used to it.
Advantages.
⁃ The toughgear is slightly longer at the neck and neck base/shoulder base area than its Nike counterpart. Also, the Nike balaclava tends to bunch upwards once you start exercising, which may leave your base of the neck cold if you don’t have a long-necked top. The toughgear bunches up less and sometimes, not at all.
⁃ The toughgear seems to have more reflective signs. Nike has only one reflective swoosh at the front.
⁃ If you are primarily a mouth breather and you don’t hydrate or eat during your aerobic activity, then the toughgear is for you as it has small breathing pores/holes at the front where your mouth is located. You can pull the balaclava down to align the pores/holes to your nose.
⁃ It keeps the noggin warm just as well as the Nike hyperwarm balaclava does. The warm material actually feels tougher than the Nike balaclava material.
⁃ Cleans easily. I wash mine in the washing machine and dry it by air dry (no heat) in the dryer or hang it inside the house to air dry. This will make it last longer and retain its elasticity.
Disadvantages
⁃ The toughgear has a ‘permanent’ posture to it. Unlike the Nike balaclava which can be worn in 3 different ways, this toughgear has only 1 way to be worn. (I may be wrong.) Slid over the head and straightened out to cover the whole head up-to the nose, only leaving out the eyes.
⁃ Therefore, looking at the ‘disadvantage’ above, if you hydrate/take fluids or eat gels/energy bars while exercising, you have to pull the balaclava away from your nose and mouth to do this. If you look at the way it’s made, the cloth close to the mouth and nose is a tad loose to allow for this but this looseness causes air to come in especially whilst cycling. In the beginning, especially when you are used to lowering part of the Nike balaclava to do this, it is harder and annoying. However, you get used to basically lowering the part of the balaclava covering your nose and mouth to drink/eat.
⁃ If you use your nose a lot to breath, then you have to pull part of the toughgear balaclava upwards so that the pores/holes at the front match with the nose. I found that hard to do.
⁃ If you wear the balaclava as intended and you breath through the nose, the material over the nose is thicker than the material of the Nike, so it is harder to breath through. The solution is to pull part of the balaclava upwards as stated above or just remove the part covering the nose and mouth. On a cold day below 20F, this may be uncomfortable and cold.
⁃ It doesn’t ‘hug’ the noggin as much as the Nike does. I wear a size 7 1/8 hat and the Nike balaclava fits me perfectly. When running, this is not an issue as such but while cycling, some little cold air does pass through the toughgear. The solution is to pull the balaclava closer to the head contours which improves the situation but not quite 100%. Also, you can wear a beanie on top of the balaclava.
⁃ Just like all balaclavas everywhere, including the Nike, it doesn’t eliminate the issue of a few icicles forming after your long cold run, especially close to your nose. That’s just how balaclavas are.
Due to the disadvantages, I’ll knock off a star of an otherwise good product.

Works well and I have dreads and fits wells

Outstanding product…warm, comfortable and breathable. The hinge makes it easy to move it down off your nose to under your chin. The material is soft and warm. The nose and mouth section is breathable, your goggles don’t fog.
Evan Denison –
One size does not fit all. The head portion just fits okay but the the side stitching cuts across the ear and is very uncomfortable. The neck gaiter portion is too long and narrow. The neck and face are too loose allowing a lot of shifting of the mask. The mask does not prevent fogging of glasses. Antifogging works better when wearing goggles. Since the gaiter is long and loose it naturally wants to cover my entire face, also impractical and uncomfortable. It’s warm but probably only down to about 30-35 degrees depending on personal tolerance. I wish I had a fuller face to fill it out.

It’s great quality. Exactly what I needed. Really keeps the heat in and you can adjust the vision gap to be as wide or small as you need comfortably. Works if you have glasses as well since the fabric is stretchy enough it doesn’t dig the arms into your head.

This balaclava ski mask held up really well during multiple ski trips in snow, freezing temperatures, and all-day wear.
